SUNRISE TO TERLINGUA

Accepted in 2021 into the permanent collections of Southwest Photography at The Wittliff Collections located at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX, the above photo was taken in November 2014 on a trip down to Terlingua from Marathon for a full day of horseback riding along the Rio Grande. Driving toward Big Bend before dawn, the sun started to rise and I pulled over to watch this masterpiece of nature unfold. Viewing the sunrise gave me a tremendous sense of peace as the sun seemed to be coming up between the grand vistas. Years later, this photo would become an inspiration for The Wittliff Collections Festival logo, which I worked on with Bill Wittliff just before his passing. That’s a big reason why both the photo and the logo are so very special to me.
